News: Launch of Autism Housing Toolkit Aotearoa
This guides you how to modify – or build – your home to suit the sensory and support needs of autistic people. Whether renting, owning, or building from scratch, there are loads of ideas to suit different budgets, living arrangements, ages, and support needs.
The website is tailored to reflect Aotearoa New Zealand's unique housing and diverse community, informed by cultural advisor Dr Jessica Tupou. INSIGHT Research is proud to be one of 6 recipients (of 160 applicants) for the inaugural Access Activator programme developed by Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People in collaboration with Creative HQ.
This led to a new resource, the Autism Housing Toolkit Aotearoa website in a project co-led by Marita Broadstock (INSIGHT Research) and autistic accessibility consultant, Beth Noble (Access Insights). We developed the website in an authentically co-led process, drawing from research, technical knowledge, and lived experience. Our toolkits are informed by the Aotearoa New Zealand Autism Guideline: He Waka Huia Takiwātanga Rau, and specifically its 2025 Supplementary Paper. The toolkits translate this evidence into practical guidance you can apply in your home.
